Welcome to the second of our three part series we’re are doing on our trail packet locations for monthly subscriptions in 2020!
(To learn more about the Feb through May locations, head on over to Part One.)
In this post, we are sharing the locations subscribers will be exploring with their families from June through August.
Summer in the PNW is a Great Time to Head Outdoors
What can we say? Summer in the PNW rocks!
It’s a time of long days, blue skies…and wildflowers, butterflies, and animals of all sorts. The forest comes alive with chatters, chirps, and buzzes - as do the prairies and wetlands where you’ll find ladybugs, dragonflies, butterflies, frogs, snakes, and more.
It’s also time for swimming and river wading, and dramatic waterfall views. Because the winter tends to be gray, in summer take time for the sunsets and snowcapped mountain views.
We'll be celebrating both the small delights and the grandeur of summertime with our 2020 subscription selections.
Summer 2020 Selections, Month by Month
Hello there! Welcome to the first of a three part series we’re are doing on our trail packet locations for monthly subscriptions in 2020.
In this post, we are sharing the locations that subscribers will be exploring from February through May.
First, though, let’s review what monthly subscriptions are, how they work, and what kinds of materials they include.
Monthly trail packet subscriptions are a great way to explore Portland parks together as a family, one family friendly trail at a time.
Families who sign up begin receiving their packets in mail around mid-to-late February and continue receiving them for as long as they are subscribed, for every month of the year except for December and January.
Subscriptions help keep kids engaged when they are hiking through place based materials and activities, such as stickers to use with a kid centered map to document wonders found along the trail. They also support learning and creativity afterwards with other kinds of hands-on materials.
Each packet in 2020 will include:

The locations are curated to celebrate the best of each season and highlight the wide variety of habitats and wonders open to the public right here in the Portland area.
Trail locations are all within 30 miles of downtown Portland. Every trail selected is 2.5 miles or less.
May is starting off lovely here in the Pacific Northwest, isn't it? There's sun in the forecast as far as the eye can see.
All this warmer weather means we are going to start seeing more animals, insects, and other creatures that either hatch or come out of hibernation in the spring. It also means we'll be transitioning into butterfly season soon.
There's a lot to be excited about this time of year, so make some space to get outside before this season ends.
Here are some bits of nature & trail news that we have on our minds right now:
Now let's talk about what to explore with Kids this May!
